John Richard Bilodeau, 85, passed away on December 22, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, engineer, photographer, and race car driver. Above all, he was most proud of the family he built and the life he shared with his beloved wife.
Born on April 10, 1940, John was the son of the late Angeline and Albert Bilodeau and was lovingly raised by Ann Bilodeau. He grew up in Utica, New York, in a close-knit Italian American family that instilled in him lifelong values of faith, family, duty, and tradition. Sunday sauce was a cherished ritual, and the home was always filled with love and laughter.
John graduated from Proctor High School and Mohawk Valley Community College, where he excelled both academically and as a student leader. A lifelong learner, he never lost his curiosity. Whether through formal education, professional certifications, or independent study, he found genuine joy in understanding how things worked.
He spent nearly 50 years as a computer engineer and technologist, helping shape a rapidly evolving industry from 1959 to 2008. During his career, he worked for UNIVAC Remington Rand, Honeywell, General Electric, Mohawk Data Sciences, Cogar Corporation, Singer Business, International Computers Limited, and Wind River Systems. His work took him throughout the United States and overseas, including assignments in Germany, Belgium, and England.
John was a proud American and a self-described nerd with a passion for mathematics, technology, photography, music, and motorsports. He began racing as a teenager, earned his SCCA competition license, and competed throughout the Northeast and Canada. In 1963, he won his first race at Watkins Glen International. His cherished 1960 Morgan Plus 4 remains a treasured family heirloom.
John's greatest accomplishment was his family. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Sharon (Hamann) Bilodeau. They shared 61 years of marriage, and he often said it was love at first sight. Together they raised five children and built homes in Clinton, New York; Amherst, New Hampshire; and later on Lake Horace in Weare, New Hampshire.
There, John formed lifelong friendships and found happiness in lake life, photography, and time with his grandchildren. A gifted photographer and devoted family historian, he leaves behind thousands of photographs, slideshows, and stories that will preserve treasured memories for generations to come.
John will be remembered for his warmth, integrity, curiosity, and unwavering love for his family. His laughter filled every room, his presence brought comfort, and the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire all who knew him.
